The Eastern European Friendship Group is led by educators working for the New York City Department of Education. The group branched out from the Girls Empowerment Movement (G.E.M.), an initiative started in 2015 at Brooklyn South Borough Field Support Center. The Eastern European Friendship Group is currently part of G.E.M. Nation - a citywide network of K-12 Girls Empowerment Programs offered throughout the N.Y.C. Department of Education schools.
